Keralam’s Leader of Opposition extends support to bank strike

Pinarayi Vijayan, the Leader of Opposition in Keralam, endorsed the three-day strike initiated by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) on September 28. The protest is in response to the Center's anti-worker policies. Vijayan highlighted that bank employees are engaged in a courageous fight against the Central government's attempts to transfer public sector banks to corporate entities.

The Union government's decision to disregard the agreement to make Saturdays holidays is seen as a significant betrayal of the employees, according to Vijayan. He criticized the Finance Ministry for overlooking legitimate demands like restoring the old pension scheme while only providing substantial benefits to top-ranking officials.

Vijayan further stated that the government is aiming to weaken the negotiating power of bank unions, who have consistently opposed the write-off of corporate loans. He emphasized that the working class and the people of Keralam will stand resolute in their opposition to this alleged conspiracy. Vijayan called upon the Center to accept the employees' demands and resolve the matter promptly in a statement.
