Otti, Achebe caution Ohanaeze against partisan politics

Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, have urged Ohanaeze Ndigbo to focus on renewal and avoid partisan politics as the organisation marks its 50th anniversary. The call came during the unveiling of a book, "Ohanaeze at 50 – The Burden of Memory, The Politics of Relevance: A Critical Biographical Reflection of an Igbo Institution," authored by Agbeze Onuma.

Otti, the special guest of honor, emphasized the need for Ohanaeze to reflect on its past, assess its present relevance, and envision its future. He stressed that the organisation should aim to build institutions capable of meeting the aspirations of younger generations, embracing technology and innovation, and engaging with the global Igbo diaspora.

Achebe added that Ohanaeze should remain above partisan politics, focusing on its role as a socio-cultural organisation rather than a political one. He criticized the organisation's elitism and loss of touch with the grassroots, urging its leaders to treat the book as a mirror to strengthen the institution.
