NPA reviews IDAC cases, lifestyle audits ordered as Masemola cleared

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is examining all cases under the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), including the Medicare24 affair, to establish if there's sufficient evidence for prosecution, reported Kaizer Kganyago, NPA spokesperson. NPA chief Andy Mothibi has mandated lifestyle audits for IDAC officials and the NPA's leadership as part of a broad integrity initiative.

The audits will continue for IDAC members, excluding previous head Andrea Johnson, who has resigned. Only evidence and the law will guide the process, according to Kganyago. Lifestyle audits are crucial to IDAC's "reset" and encompass prosecutors, investigators, and NPA management. Ms Johnson was included in the audit as an Executive Committee member but cannot be audited again as she has resigned.

Regarding Fannie Masemola, the National Police Commissioner, Kganyago said the NPA will decide on an apology depending on the oversight judge's verdict. Charges against Masemola in relation to the Medicare24 bidding process were officially withdrawn on September 22, and he was released. The former police chief expressed a desire to return to work, stating that he is prepared to resume his duties after the charges were withdrawn.
