Nearly 70% of workers use AI regularly now – but many get no time to upskill

ZDNET Exclusive: A new Workera report shows businesses and employees aren’t on the same page about AI upskilling. Here’s what organizations need to know.

Nearly 70% of workers use AI regularly now – but many get no time to upskill

Nearly 70% of workers utilize artificial intelligence regularly in their jobs, according to a new study from Workera. However, many employees are not given the opportunity to develop their AI skills during work hours. Kian Katanforoosh, founder and CEO of Workera, emphasized the importance of allocating time for upskilling and creating a safe environment for employees to experiment with AI.

Despite some companies feeling on track for an AI-enabled future in 2026, many are still struggling to provide the necessary resources and time for employees to improve their AI skills. The survey of 1,000 salaried professionals in US organizations with 5,000 or more employees revealed that over two-thirds use AI tools beyond ChatGPT at least a couple of days a week, a 30% increase year-over-year.

However, nearly 60% of employees reported no time allocated for upskilling, while 43% cited a lack of relevant learning materials as the biggest obstacles.
