‘Mr Rogers was political, too’: Ms Rachel challenges critics over Gaza and ICE detention

Ms Rachel, a children's educator and activist popularly known as Rachel Accurso, challenged critics on SubwayTakes who claimed that children's entertainers should avoid discussing politics. She highlighted the political messages delivered by Fred Rogers, the creator of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and argued that advocating for children is inherently political.

Ms Rachel spoke out against the treatment of Palestinian children in Gaza, condemning the killing, starvation, and medical neglect of children. She recalled a specific episode of Rogers' show where he shared a swimming pool and towel with a Black character, Officer Clemmons, symbolizing his opposition to racial segregation and his commitment to justice.

Ms Rachel also emphasized that no child should be held in US immigration detention centers, citing pediatric research and UN reports on the harm it causes. She drew parallels between the treatment of Palestinian children in Gaza and the broader responsibility to protect all children based on their humanity, not their nationality or immigration status.

Ms Rachel's comments sparked both support and criticism, with some accusing her of antisemitism and others praising her commitment to basic human decency.
