Manhyia South MP recounts alleged attempt to forcibly take him to EOCO

Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, recounted an alleged incident where a woman claiming to be from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to forcibly take him to the office following a hearing at the Accra High Court on September 23. This account was given to the press in Parliament, where MP Awuah, also a lawyer representing detained nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti, addressed the audience.

After the court proceedings, which were adjourned to September 24, a woman approached MP Awuah and asked him to accompany her to EOCO. He denied their claims, stating that he had never been invited and had willingly agreed to follow her in his own vehicle. The woman allegedly refused and threatened to forcibly take him to EOCO in another vehicle, refusing to provide an arrest warrant or identification as an EOCO officer.

MP Awuah demanded to see the warrant and the officer's identity, but the woman could not provide any evidence. Concerned for his safety, he decided to leave the scene, attributing his decision to the recent trend of state-sponsored kidnappings. His actions were also driven by his responsibilities as an MP, a member of the Minority Caucus, and his role as his client's legal representative.

MP Awuah drove back to Parliament, where he was met by colleagues who had gathered in support. He thanked them for their solidarity and expressed his gratitude to them. This incident came in the wake of a confrontation at the Accra High Court involving lawyers for Ms. Baffoe and security personnel believed to be EOCO officers.
