Landslide forces Cheras apartment residents out of their homes, underground water leak suspected

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — In the early hours of September 23, an apartment block in Bandar Damai Perdana, Cheras, was evacuated due to a landslide that occurred near the building. The landslide, caused by an underground water leak, was believed to have been triggered by a slope that had collapsed by 4.57 meters. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at 9:03pm and dispatched a team of five personnel to the scene.

The rescue team arrived eight minutes later and discovered that a 0.91-meter section of the area had been engulfed by the landslide. The team observed that water was still flowing in the area, but no further soil movement had been detected at the time. According to Ashrul Riezal Asbar, an assistant operations director at the department, monitoring of the soil condition and water flow was being carried out to ensure safety at the scene.

No casualties or injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the Public Works Department has been informed for further action.
