Khao Kheow Zoo welcomes a new white rhino calf on Rhino Day

On 22 September 2026, Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, welcomed a new white rhino calf, marking the occasion on World Rhino Day. The zoo confirmed the birth on its Facebook page, sharing images of the newborn and identifying it as the latest addition to their white rhino family. The male calf, born to mother Grietjie and father Sudi after a gestation period exceeding 16 months, is in healthy condition and capable of standing and nursing.

The calf currently receives close attention from zoo staff at the African animal exhibit. The zoo announced that they would soon host a public vote on Facebook to select a name for the newborn, as seen on the Khao Kheow Open Zoo post. Additionally, World Rhino Day 2026 was celebrated at Khao Kheow Open Zoo with various activities organized by zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi, who entrusted the event's management to assistant director Srisak Sukchum.

Supported by Thai Oil Public Co Ltd, led by Peerasut Srithawat Na Ayudhya, the event aimed to raise awareness about rhinos and wildlife conservation, engaging both public and youth in learning about the importance of protecting natural resources and the environment. Activities encompassed special programs by Thai Oil, exhibitions, educational sessions on rhinos and conservation, family-oriented learning, and opportunities for public participation in conservation efforts.
