Cat Matlala’s wife to appear in court in fraud case over R1m property deal

Cat Matlala's wife, Tsakane Matlala, is scheduled to face Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in connection with a fraud and corruption investigation involving the acquisition of properties through fraudulent means. On Tuesday, she was apprehended alongside three accomplices during a Gauteng operation by specialized counterintelligence and operations task forces.

The investigation centers on the alleged use of fraudulent documents in property purchases across Gauteng. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe revealed that investigators are also probing a lease agreement for a luxury property in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, which was reportedly leased for R95,000 per month with nearly R1.2 million paid upfront as an initial payment.

This development adds to the legal troubles of Tsakane Matlala, who is already a co-accused with her husband, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, in a 25-count criminal case handled by Johannesburg High Court. The charges against her include attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering. She remains in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre, denied bail and facing extra warrants.

Her husband is also grappling with separate corruption allegations tied to the R228 million Medicare 24 Tshwane District contract. The Medicare 24 case is set to resume in court soon. As the authorities continue their probe into the alleged property transactions, the substantial sums involved and the number of individuals implicated are drawing renewed scrutiny.
