Kaduna police recover 300 rounds of ammunition, three locally made guns

On September 20, armed bandits targeted a resident in Gimi Ward of Makarfi Local Government Area, prompting a swift response from the Kaduna State Police Command. Supported by local vigilantes, operatives from the Makarfi Division engaged the attackers in a gunfight, ultimately overpowering them and forcing the suspects to flee into the bush.

Among the apprehended was 20-year-old Usman Alhaji Dahiru, who sustained injuries and was subsequently taken into custody. The police recovered three locally manufactured firearms—including a rifle, a pistol, and a bag containing charms—along with 300 rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

In a separate operation on September 21, officers from the Gwantu Division arrested Jude Magaji, based on intelligence that he was allegedly carrying a locally crafted pistol and intimidating residents. Magaji was tracked down and brought into police custody, with the firearm recovered from his possession. The police remain committed to investigating the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the weapon and determining whether it has been utilized in any criminal activities.

Furthering their efforts, the police executed an intelligence-led operation on September 22, resulting in the arrest of two suspected arms traffickers, Rayyanu Adamu and Nasiru Abubakar, near Giwa Local Government Area and the railway station axis. Following a surveillance operation, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended the two suspects.

A subsequent search yielded 270 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 rounds of Type 06 ammunition, adding to the total of 300 rounds recovered. The suspects are currently in custody while authorities work to trace the origins of the ammunition and identify any additional individuals connected to the suspected syndicate.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, expressed gratitude for the swift and courageous response of the police officers and vigilantes involved in these operations. He reiterated the command's dedication to combating criminal elements, vowing to intensify ongoing operations aimed at apprehending all remaining fugitives. Additionally, CP Rabiu urged residents to provide any credible information that could aid in the ongoing fight against crime across the state.
