Iran 'presents US with road map for regionwide ceasefire and Hormuz reopening'

Iran has provided the United States with a detailed plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, as well as reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the US blockade. This proposal, presented to US officials during talks held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, was mediated by Qatar, Pakistan, and Egypt. The Iranian plan includes a region-wide ceasefire lasting up to 60 days, a phased reopening of the Hormuz Strait, and an end to the US blockade on the country.

Iran also seeks a timeline for negotiations to bring an end to the conflict, while the proposed ceasefire would be in effect. Additionally, Iran proposes a halt to attacks on its Arab neighbors. While it is unclear if the US has accepted the Iranian roadmap, US President Donald Trump has previously ruled out lifting the blockade without sufficient goodwill from Iran.

The Iranian proposal is seen as a roadmap for future negotiations to reach a comprehensive resolution to the differences with the US. The talks began with a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, followed by discussions with experts and diplomats from both sides.

Trump, during his address to the UN General Assembly, called for complete economic isolation of Iran until it stops attacks on commercial shipping, abandons its nuclear ambitions, and ends its support for terrorism.
