Ghanaian pastor on the run over alleged counterfeit currency syndicate – NSCS

Ghanaian pastor Rev Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah remains at large after a nationwide operation to dismantle counterfeit currency production networks, according to the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). The Secretariat announced in a statement on September 22 that the six coordinated operations, conducted between June 12 and July 24, targeted four major counterfeit currency printing hubs across the Greater Accra Region and surrounding districts.

The crackdown led to the arrest of 16 suspects and the seizure of printing machines, vehicles, and counterfeit notes, but Boakye-Danquah managed to flee.

An operation on June 29 specifically targeted an office facility at Lashibi and Klagon, where five individuals were arrested and printing equipment recovered. Intelligence led investigators to a religious organization's headquarters in Klagon, where administrative offices and residential quarters were allegedly used to produce and store counterfeit currency.

During this operation, one printing machine and two operational vehicles were seized, along with counterfeit currency coupons valued at US$5,287,900, CFA623,530,000, and GH¢7,129,000.

The NSCS stated that the dismantled networks reportedly exploited churches and administrative premises of religious organizations to conceal their activities, helping to reduce suspicion and provide space for storing materials. While four counterfeit currency printing hubs were dismantled, Boakye-Danquah remains on the run, linked to one of the networks through administrative offices used for producing and storing counterfeit currency.
