Europeans warn of rising Russian sabotage but see no imminent NATO attack

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas warned that Russia is ramping up cyberattacks, sabotage, and drone incursions to scare Europe into reducing support for Ukraine. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, officials from NATO's eastern members claimed Moscow was intensifying covert operations to sow fear, test Western resolve, and weaken backing for Kyiv.

Poland reported a Russian Mi-8 helicopter briefly entering its airspace, while Romania faced over 100 drone incursions onto its territory. Lithuania's foreign minister emphasized that Russia's campaign aims to create fear, divide Western nations, and play with their unity. However, ministers stressed that there is no imminent NATO attack and urged unity, deterrence, and continued support for Ukraine, especially as Russia may intensify attacks on energy infrastructure during the winter.
