EU foreign policy chief to Araghchi: 'Navigation must be free, unimpeded'

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas expressed her concerns to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi about the need for free and uninterrupted navigation, specifically in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Kallas met with Araghchi during the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. In a tweet, Kallas stated that the two discussed diplomatic possibilities for ending the US-Iran conflict and fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Kallas emphasized that there were no tolls or fees for passage in the Strait of Hormuz prior to the war, and she believes the same should apply afterward. Additionally, Kallas brought up the issue of domestic repression in Iran, particularly the surge in executions and death sentences.
