One Nation-coalition deal rubbished as imaginary

Former colleagues of ex-Nationals-turned-One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce have dismissed his claims that secret talks are being held between his party and the coalition to form a government. Joyce alleged that one party could provide the other with supply and confidence, but coalition spokespeople strongly rejected the idea on Wednesday.

The former deputy prime minister stated that there is no prospect of the coalition or One Nation forming a government based on current polling. Coalition members quickly dismissed Joyce's claims, with opposition frontbencher Tim Wilson suggesting that his comments may come from resentment over defecting from the Nationals in December 2025.

Joyce accused Wilson of being unable to count to 76, arguing that this number represents the seats needed to form a government. Other coalition leaders, including former Liberal leader Jane Hume and Senator Alex Antic, also dismissed the possibility of a formal coalition with One Nation, expressing their intention to work with anyone to get rid of the current Labor government.
