Essex cricketer Das charged with two counts of rape

Essex cricketer Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape, according to prosecutors. The 24-year-old will make his first appearance at Inner London Crown Court on October 9, following his arrest in August last year. Das was charged on July 23, 2026, after being arrested on August 27, 2025, in connection with a report of a rape in Brixton in March 2024.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges, stating that Das, from Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was arrested following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on March 30, 2024. The woman remains supported by specialist officers during this process. Das, a top-order batter, has made 60 appearances for Essex, with his last senior appearance for the club being a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on July 21, 2026.

Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that Das has been suspended since his arrest, just two days after his final appearance for the club. The club emphasized its commitment to strict safeguarding and HR procedures, stating that all employees are required to meet the highest standards of professional conduct. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and the club is unable to comment further at this time.
