EFCC declares ex-pension boss Maina wanted again

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again declared former Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms Chairman, Abdularasheed Maina, a wanted individual for allegedly receiving stolen property. The announcement was made through an official wanted notice on the EFCC's X handle, signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

Maina, aged 61 and an indigene of Biu in Borno State, is accused of receiving stolen property. The EFCC urges the public to assist in locating him and to contact them with any relevant information. No further details were provided regarding the alleged stolen property case, including when the offense allegedly occurred. Maina's situation arises from a history of legal troubles concerning pension funds.

Previously, he was declared wanted for failing to appear for trial in a case involving alleged N2 billion fraud related to the pension reform program. He was subsequently arrested in Niger Republic in 2019 and brought back to Nigeria for trial. In November 2021, Maina was convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja and sentenced to eight years in prison for money laundering offenses.

He was released from custody on February 25, 2025, after serving part of his sentence, due to good conduct in prison.
