Colts WR Alec Pierce will be placed on injured reserve after aggravating left heel injury

The Indianapolis Colts have placed wide receiver Alec Pierce on injured reserve after he further injured his left heel. This comes three days after Pierce left the field at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium following his initial setback. Coach Shane Steichen made the announcement on Wednesday, explaining that Pierce will be sidelined for at least four weeks.

Pierce had been sidelined from offseason work and all three preseason games after undergoing surgery on his left ankle and heel the previous winter. He was initially activated from the physically unable to perform list in late August and had been gradually increasing his activity over the past several weeks. However, his recent performance was marred by the heel injury, which showed up on the team's injury report last week.

Despite being cleared by the trainers and doctors, Pierce's injury has put a significant burden on the Colts. The team will now be without its top receiver for a significant stretch of the upcoming season. In response, Indy signed veteran Darius Slayton to help fill the void left by Pierce. Slayton, who played for the New York Giants for seven seasons, will pair up with six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen, who recently signed with the Colts. Allen is currently facing a potential suspension after a recent DUI arrest.
