China’s AgiBot eyes RM1bil investment in Malaysia by 2035

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed potential investments and strategic partnerships with representatives from five major Chinese tech companies, including AgiBot Innovation, in several meetings while visiting Malaysia. AgiBot, specializing in general-purpose artificial intelligence robotics, has pledged a possible RM1 billion investment by 2035, which could generate 5,000 job opportunities.

ZTE Corporation, another company on the list, proposed a RM170 million initiative to boost Malaysia's digital transformation, aiming to create higher-quality employment opportunities for local talent. Alibaba Group's representatives also explored ways to increase market access for Malaysian products, particularly from micro, small, and medium enterprises, and the country's halal industry, via Alibaba's digital platform.

During their discussions, the focus was on exploring new investment opportunities and forming strategic partnerships in high-impact areas such as humanoid robotics, digital infrastructure, AI, electric vehicle technology, and e-commerce. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized Malaysia's commitment to attracting high-quality investments, empowering local talent, and creating skilled jobs to drive economic prosperity for its citizens and the nation.

Malaysia has maintained China as its largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade amounting to US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) from January to August.
