BAFFOUR AWUAH: I NEVER IGNORED EOCO

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has refuted the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) accusation that he neglected their invitation to aid an investigation. According to the MP, the EOCO invitation was not for him as an accused person, but for his former position as Senior Partner at Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a law firm representing SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.

This clarification came after EOCO officials attempted an arrest at the Accra High Court, stating that the action was part of lawful efforts to compel his attendance in an ongoing investigation. The EOCO had reportedly sent two invitations in February 2026, but Awuah claimed he was no longer acting as the Senior Partner of the law firm by the time he received the invitation on February 10, 2026.

He subsequently informed EOCO on February 18, 2026, that he had referred the matter to the Clerk of Parliament for guidance. Despite the matter not ending there, as a representative of the law firm later engaged EOCO, attended interrogations on three occasions, and supplied all requested information, the MP disputes the claim that their invitations were ignored.

He emphasized that the firm had complied with EOCO's requests for information and a formal written statement. The EOCO, however, maintains that its attempted arrest of Awuah was linked to their ongoing investigation, following the two invitations sent in February. The dispute centers on the nature of the February 2026 invitations and whether the firm's subsequent cooperation satisfied EOCO's demand for Awuah's presence.
