Asian Games: India let down by singles as Shi Yuqi-Shifeng hand a 3-1 loss in Men’s Team SF

Tokoname, Japan—South Korean fencer Oh Sang-uk secured the gold medal in the men's individual sabre fencing event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, successfully defending his Asiad title. The reigning Olympic champion edged out China's Shen Chenpeng 15-13 in the decisive bout held at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, approximately 35 kilometers south of Nagoya.

This marks Oh's second consecutive Asian Games victory in the individual sabre category, following his gold medal win at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, where he also claimed the team title. Bronze medals were awarded to Artyom Sarkissyan of Kazakhstan and Seyed Ali Esmaeilzadeh Pakdaman of Iran. Oh is among the most accomplished fencers in the men's sabre discipline, a weapon characterized by its cutting and thrusting actions targeting the upper body, including arms and head.

His accomplishments include an Olympic gold in 2024, along with two team golds in 2020 and 2024. He has claimed four world championship titles, including a solo gold in 2019. On the continental front, Oh placed second in the individual event at the 2018 Asian Games and triumphed with gold at the 2023 competition.
