(Asiad) Sabre fencer Oh Sang-uk feels Asia's fencing getting stronger

Tokoname, Japan, September 23 - Fencer Oh Sang-uk found this year's Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to be a unique experience compared to his previous appearances. He won silver in 2018 and gold in 2023, facing legendary Korean fencer Gu Bon-gil in both finals. This time, however, he won the final against a Chinese fencer, Shen Chenpeng, marking his first non-Korean opponent in an Asian Games final.

Oh described it as new and challenging. Despite having an ankle injury from a collision with Shen at the start, Oh managed to defeat Shen 15-13. He acknowledged that Asia's fencing is improving faster than anticipated. Oh expressed his gratitude for defending his Asian Games title for the second consecutive time and emphasized that he realizes the difficulty of future challenges.

His victory also earns him a spot in the team event, where he aims to secure his country's fourth consecutive gold medal. Oh expressed pride in his individual achievement but also expressed anticipation for victories with his team.
