Asiad karate champ Adeola strikes perfect balance between classroom and training

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian karate sensation Adeola Fay Robert claimed gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, thanks to her remarkable blend of academic discipline and athletic prowess. Raised in a family of educators, Adeola's commitment to education and community service began early, as she achieved an impressive 7As in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exams while simultaneously pursuing her Form 6 studies.

When national karate coach R. Sharmendran identified her talent following a silver medal win at the 2024 Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma), Adeola made the difficult decision to leave her family behind and join the high-performance programme at Bukit Jalil. The transition to elite training demanded immense mental resilience, as Adeola balanced intense physical conditioning at Bukit Jalil with her studies at the Institute of Teacher Education Kampus Ilmu Khas in Cheras.

Despite initial family concerns about her far-away training regimen, Adeola grew stronger both physically and mentally over time. Standing atop the podium in Toyohashi, Adeola's gold medal victory validated her early morning training sessions and sacrifices made away from home. She expressed immense pride and emotion, dedicating her achievement to her family, coaches, and supporters.

Her success not only brings honor to Malaysia but also serves as a foundation for future Olympic aspirations.
