Airtel Africa buyback hits 19.91 million shares after fresh 798,919-share purchase

Airtel Africa Plc has completed a significant share buyback, purchasing 798,919 of its ordinary shares at a volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of 322.59 pence per share. This brings the total number of shares repurchased under the company's ongoing buyback programme to 19.91 million. The announcement of this transaction was made by Airtel Africa on September 22.

Since the buyback programme commenced in May 2026, Airtel Africa has purchased a total of 19,907,874 ordinary shares, with the cumulative VWAP standing at 336.05 pence per share. The latest purchase, made on September 18, 2026, was executed at a lower VWAP of 323.28 pence, compared to the programme's cumulative average. After the cancellation of the purchased shares, Airtel Africa's issued share capital will be reduced.

The company disclosed that the remaining 17,089 shares were acquired on Turquoise at the aforementioned VWAP. Share buybacks are transactions where a company buys its own shares from the market, with the repurchased shares subsequently being cancelled.
