8 drones launched by Afghan Taliban shot down near Torkham border, Kohat: security sources

On Wednesday, Pakistan's armed forces successfully shot down eight drones launched by the Afghan Taliban near the Torkham border and the city of Kohat, according to security sources. All eight drones entered Pakistani airspace and were eliminated by the country's active air defense systems. Four of the drones fell in areas close to the Torkham border, while the remaining four were brought down near Kohat, the sources reported.

Security officials stated that the Taliban's act demonstrated their direct support for terrorist organizations. This incident occurred just two days after Pakistan carried out "calibrated" airstrikes in the Afghan-Pakistani border region against terrorist hideouts. The information ministry reported that over 28 terrorists were killed in these strikes.

The ministry expressed grave concern over Afghanistan being a hub for terrorism, emphasizing the threat posed to Pakistan from across the border. The tensions between Islamabad and Kabul have been high, with Pakistan repeatedly urging the Taliban to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil. The Foreign Office highlighted the need for concrete and verifiable action by the Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against neighboring countries.

In recent months, there have been multiple attacks in Pakistan attributed to Afghan Taliban-linked terrorist groups, including a devastating attack in Kohat that killed 23 people and injured about 100 others in September.
