Waymo is offering transit discounts again, this time with Visa

Waymo has introduced a new transit rewards program that encourages riders to combine robotaxi rides with public transportation. The program is currently available to Waymo employees in the San Francisco Bay Area, with plans to expand to the public in the coming weeks. To join, riders must link a Visa credit or debit tap-to-pay card in the Waymo app, similar to how Mastercard offers similar incentives on major U.S. systems.

Upon using a Visa card for both a Waymo ride and public transit within two hours, riders will receive $2.85 in Waymo Cash, equivalent to a bus fare in San Francisco. The Waymo Cash can be used for future rides. The program aims to boost public transit usage, as half of Waymo's Bay Area riders already utilize transit. Waymo has also leased 40 parking spots at Caltrain commuter system stations for their vehicles, providing convenient pick-up and drop-off locations.

The initiative has received approval from state transportation officials and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, who believes the partnership enhances public transit without replacing it, creating a more seamless travel experience for residents.
