Uncle remanded seven days over death of five-year-old girl allegedly thrown into Johor river

On September 22, a 37-year-old man was remanded for seven days by Sessions Court Judge Hafizah Abdul Rajak following the death of his five-year-old niece in Kampung Padang, Tanjung Sedili, Johor. The suspect was reportedly remanded to assist with the ongoing investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder. He had been receiving treatment at Kota Tinggi Hospital and arrived at the court complex at 9 a.m. today, escorted by policemen.

According to police, the incident occurred when the suspect allegedly threw his niece into the river, causing her death. The suspect, who was the deceased girl's uncle, was also arrested on suspicion of murder. Later, during a confrontation, the suspect allegedly brandished a machete and attacked the victim's father, 40 years old. A police officer was injured during the struggle while attempting to apprehend the suspect.

The police are still investigating the motive behind the incident. The victim's body was sent to Pasir Gudang Hospital and is expected to be buried in Kampung Sayang following the completion of the post-mortem examination. The suspect's mental health issues are believed to have played a role in the tragic incident.
