Trump renames AI 'super intelligence,' rejects international oversight

UNITED NATIONS — U.S. President Donald Trump declared the U.S. government's intention to rename artificial intelligence as "super intelligence" in official communications on Tuesday, firmly rejecting international oversight of the technology. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Trump argued that the word "artificial" did not do justice to the advanced nature of AI.

He expressed optimism that the rest of the world would adopt the new term, stating that "it sounds much better. It is much better, and it is much more accurate." The rebranding of AI is part of a series of renaming efforts undertaken by the Trump administration, which previously changed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" via executive order and renamed Lake Ontario as "Lake America" amid a trade dispute with Canada.

Trump also dismissed warnings from AI safety advocates, likening them to warnings about climate change, which is supported by the overwhelming consensus of the scientific community.
