Support Efforts to Reduce Maternal Mortality

The Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has urged the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, to assist in the fight against preventable maternal deaths in the Bono Region. In a statement released by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah made this appeal during a courtesy visit to the Bono Region, which was part of her official working visit.

The visit allowed her to discuss the ongoing issue of high maternal mortality rates in Ghana and the steps the Ministry of Health is taking to enhance efforts to reduce these preventable deaths. The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of close collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, Regional Coordinating Council, health facilities, and other stakeholders in tackling the causes of maternal deaths and improving overall health outcomes in the region.

She also appealed for support to healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and other personnel, working in the region. "Creating a conducive working environment and supporting health staff is crucial for delivering quality maternal and other essential health services," the statement added. Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister, expressed his optimism about the Deputy Minister's visit and praised her for her commitment to addressing maternal mortality and other health challenges nationwide.

He welcomed the engagement and affirmed his willingness to back initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare services and enhancing the well-being of women and communities in the Bono Region.
