South Korean president says Trump should ease sanctions on North Korea

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump once more claimed responsibility for helping to end the India-Pakistan conflict. According to Sharif, Trump had saved "30 million lives, and probably many more than that". The President described Sharif as a "terrific man" while presenting his record of resolving major global conflicts.

Trump has frequently asserted that his involvement, including the threat of tariffs, contributed to the halt of hostilities between India and Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor in May 2025. India maintains that the ceasefire was achieved through direct military communication between their armed forces, not through any third-party mediation by the US.

Trump suggested that his relationships and the use of tariffs were key tools he used to encourage countries to negotiate and settle disputes. He hinted at reaching a deal with Iran after the November midterm elections, stating that it wouldn't make sense for Iran not to negotiate. Despite New Delhi's claim that the ceasefire was reached through direct communication between the two countries' military leaders, Trump emphasized Sharif's personal acknowledgment of his role in preventing a potentially catastrophic war.

He included India and Pakistan among conflicts his administration had helped resolve since his presidency began. Trump listed Cambodia, Thailand, Kosovo, Serbia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the Gaza conflict as examples of his administration's success in settling major wars.
