Singapore Online Safety Commission gets 500-plus reports in first two months, youngest victim seven

Singapore's Online Safety Commission (OSC) received over 500 reports of online harm within its first two months of operation, with the youngest victim being a seven-year-old who faced doxxing, according to a report by CNA. The OSC, established under the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025, works to provide a faster avenue for victims to seek relief when platforms fail to remove harmful content within 24 hours.

Of the eligible reports received, 44% involved doxxing, 38% were cases of online harassment, 8% related to intimate image abuse, 7% were cases of online stalking, and 3% involved image-based child abuse. Over 90% of the eligible reports were resolved, with the commission considering a case resolved when the harmful content is removed.

The OSC spokesperson explained that a case is considered resolved when the harmful content is removed through flags to online platforms, directions, communication with those responsible, or restrictions on a perpetrator's account. If platforms, websites, or communicators fail to comply with the commissioner's directions by the specified deadline, the case is treated as unresolved and investigated as a non-compliance case.

The commission currently handles five categories of online harm, but plans to expand its remit to cover all 13 categories as outlined in the law.
