Ryan Day wants more from Ohio State football quarterback Julian Sayin

Ohio State coach Ryan Day is requesting more from quarterback Julian Sayin as the team begins their Big Ten schedule. Day emphasized that expectations extend beyond the quarterback position, highlighting a need for consistency. Sayin started the year as a top passer, a returning Heisman Trophy finalist, and has thrown for 839 yards and six touchdowns in three games.

However, his performance has been inconsistent, particularly during a loss to Texas on September 12 when he struggled to regain momentum after leading by 20 points. In that game, Sayin completed only five of 16 passes for 29 yards in the final two quarters, including a throw that could have resulted in a touchdown. He showed improvement against Kent State the following week, completing 18 of 22 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but missed several opportunities.

Day pointed out specific instances where Sayin could have improved, such as faster progressions to more open receivers, extending plays, or scrambling for first downs or touchdowns. The coach believes Sayin could have moved through his progressions more quickly to find receiver Brandon Inniss in the end zone, as well as extending plays or scrambling for a first down or touchdown. Ohio State faces Illinois in their conference opener on September 26.
