Police to Crackdown on Stolen Phones With Altered IMEI Numbers

Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana has ordered a thorough crackdown on those altering the IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones. This directive came during a meeting that reviewed strategies to reduce organized mobile phone theft and enhance surveillance in high-risk areas. Discussions at the meeting included implementing geofencing technology to target theft hotspots, bolstering surveillance measures, and utilizing human intelligence and advanced technology to detect and prevent theft incidents.

The police plan to deploy extra personnel at these hotspots, increase patrol frequency, and carry out covert operations. Kamyana has instructed officers to arrest individuals caught pickpocketing or stealing mobile phones and ensure they face justice. Additionally, he has mandated heightened surveillance of pickpockets in crowded locations, such as markets, public events, and public transportation.

The meeting also decided to trace the broader network behind the theft of mobile phones by retracing recovered devices. Police will check identification documents and transaction records to take stern action against the unlawful sale and purchase of stolen phones and their accessories.
