Plot targeting Manchester's Jewish community disrupted, say police

Police in Manchester have busted a suspected terrorist plot aimed at the city's Jewish community, according to authorities. Two men, both in their 30s, were apprehended on suspicion of violating Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. The Metropolitan Police, leading the investigation, confirmed the arrests occurred on Newton Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter on Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans informed the public that the men were taken to a London police station for questioning. Evans expressed concern over the timing of the arrests, citing the High Holy day period, with Yom Kippur marked from Sunday evening to Monday evening. The two suspects remain in custody and could be held until September 27th, pending further investigations.

Police also conducted searches at properties in Liverpool and Salford, which have concluded. Evans reassured the public that law enforcement is working with partners to safeguard the community, particularly during the High Holy Days, and emphasized their commitment to identifying and disrupting any threats to Manchester's Jewish population.
