Osun Assembly approves constitutional amendment for state police

The Osun State House of Assembly has voted unanimously in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow for the creation of a state police force. The decision came after the lawmakers discussed a request from the National Assembly to consider and approve the amendment. The amendment was forwarded to the House by the National Assembly as part of the ongoing constitutional amendment process.

Members of the Osun State House of Assembly, including lawmakers representing various constituencies, expressed support for the proposal, stating that it could improve security and enable quicker responses to security threats. The lawmakers argued that state police would enhance security at both state and local government levels, allowing states to provide adequate security personnel and effectively respond to security challenges in their respective areas.

Following the debate, the Assembly's Majority Leader moved a motion for the approval of the proposed amendment, which was seconded by another lawmaker. The Osun State Assembly subsequently adjourned to a Committee of the Whole to examine proposed amendments and corrections to the proposed constitutional change before adopting it.
