Osagyefo Roundabout unveiled at Sanzule to honour Dr Kwame Nkrumah

The Osagyefo Roundabout has been unveiled in Sanzule, near Eikwe, to honor Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President. This monument marks the 117th anniversary of Dr. Nkrumah's birth and aims to preserve his memory and his crucial role in Ghana's independence and the liberation of Africa. The monument's unveiling took place alongside Kenyan lawyer and Pan-Africanist, Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, expressed that Nzema had produced one of the country's most prominent leaders, Dr. Nkrumah, who played a central role in Ghana's independence struggle. Despite attempts to remove Dr. Nkrumah's name and image from Ghana's history, including from the country's currency, such efforts have not succeeded.

Dr. Nkrumah's vision of self-reliance is symbolized by the roundabout, which reflects his belief that Ghana should determine its own development path and no longer rely on former colonizers. The government plans to renovate Dr. Nkrumah's residence in Half-Assini, his father's hometown, next year as part of efforts to preserve his memory and legacy.

Professor Lumumba commended the initiative, highlighting that Dr. Nkrumah's legacy continues to endure due to the ideals, memories, and philosophy associated with his leadership. National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emphasized the historical connection between Nzema and Ghana's independence struggle, noting that two prominent figures associated with the pre-independence political movement, Paa Grant and Dr. Nkrumah, were both sons of Nzema.

The continued recognition of Dr. Nkrumah's contribution made it appropriate for Ghana to preserve and honor his legacy. Dr. Nkrumah's daughter, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, expressed gratitude for the honor and hopes that more individuals in contemporary governance will embody the ideals associated with her father, such as freedom, development, prosperity, and self-reliance.
