CPP calls for protection and revival of state-owned enterprises to honour Nkrumah

The Convention People's Party (CPP) has urged the protection, revival, and management of Ghana's state-owned enterprises to honor the legacy of their founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, on what would have been his 117th birthday. In a statement, the CPP expressed concern over the deterioration of some state-owned enterprises and the sale of others to individuals with political connections.

The party also opposed proposed private-sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), describing it as an attempt to privatize the utility, although the government claims the arrangement does not involve a sale or transfer of ownership. CPP National Communications Director Osei Kofi Acquah argued that state-owned companies can be effectively managed by the people, stating, "It is illogical to believe that a company, factory and state-owned enterprise cannot be properly managed by the over 30 million Ghanaians, but can be managed effectively by single individual(s)."

The CPP calls for the restoration, revamp, and proper management of these enterprises to create jobs and generate revenue for the government. This comes as Ghana marks Nkrumah's 117th birthday on September 21, 2026, and the Energy Ministry maintains that the proposed private-sector participation in ECG does not involve ownership transfer.
