Netanyahu accuses Mamdani of 'supporting' Hamas ahead of UN visit: 'Shame on you'

In a dramatic video posted on X/Twitter, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to "expose the truth" about New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani prior to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) visit. Netanyhu declared "Shame on you, Mr. Mamdani" for supporting Hamas and inciting riots against New York Jews.

Netanyahu stated he was coming to the UN "to fight the truth of our heroic soldiers" and "to expose the truth about you". The video was shared on September 22, 2026.

Mamdani is set to arrive in New York on September 23 for a UNGA address, and returned to Israel shortly after.

His visit had originally been planned for multiple days, including a trip to Texas and a meeting with US President Donald Trump. Israeli Consul-General in New York Ofir Akunis echoed Netanyahu's sentiments on Twitter, accusing Mamdani of spreading antisemitism. The consul general wrote that Mamdani was only capable of incitement and blood libels against Israel, urging the UN to focus on the October 7 massacre by Hamas.

Mamdani called for Netanyahu's arrest in a Monday CNN interview, accusing him of being a "war criminal and an architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people". The mayor declared he would honor the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant, although he later stated he could not legally do so. He warned Netanyahu was "not welcome" in New York City.
