MRT fire linked to sparks from 750-volt electrical cable

Bangkok's MRT Blue Line resumed full service on September 21 following an electrical fire at Tao Poon station earlier in the day, which prompted passenger evacuations and temporarily halted trains between Bang O and Kamphaeng Phet. Deputy Transport Minister Phattharaphong Phattharaprasit confirmed that services returned to normal at all stations by 5:37am after crews worked throughout the night to fix damaged power and signalling systems.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) reported that its initial assessment indicated the sparks that caused the disruption originated from a 750-volt direct-current cable assembly. The agency repaired the cable assembly, power rail, and signaling equipment, followed by comprehensive safety checks before reopening the line to passengers.

The fire incident began on September 20 when an electrical fire erupted near the tracks at Tao Poon MRT station. Although no injuries were reported, falling sparks resulted in minor damage to a parked motorcycle and caused slight delays at some stations. Phattharaphong praised the staff who worked tirelessly to repair the damage and resume services, commending their efforts in ensuring the train system's safe operation.
