Father used son’s name to sell insurance and run up debts

A Thai university student claims his own father used his name to sell insurance and amass debts. He also allegedly assaulted the student when he sought help. The student detailed his ordeal in a lengthy Facebook post that quickly garnered widespread attention. His father works for a prominent insurance firm, and the pair are estranged due to the student's refusal to register as an insurance agent.

After his father cut off his allowance, the student begrudgingly complied, believing it only required passing an exam. He soon found out that his father manipulated him into signing for a car and scanning his face for a purported car-payment app, actions that resulted in the creation of a credit card in the student's name. The father's wife cautioned him against signing for another new car, but he disregarded her warning.

In June, a lawyer's letter arrived demanding payment of the credit card balance. When the student questioned his father about the card's ownership, he allegedly responded that he would shoulder the responsibility. In August, a court summons followed, and the student visited his father's residence to request the removal of his name from the insurance agent role and repayment of the debt.

His father's anger was palpable, and he physically assaulted the student. He promptly reported the assault to the police, who documented it in the daily log. He also lodged a complaint with the insurance company regarding his father's use of his name and forged documents. Screenshots showed the father using the student's name as his LINE display name while interacting with clients.

After receiving the complaint, the insurance company acknowledged it but took no further action. The student attempted to submit his resignation at the company's headquarters, but staff informed him that a senior manager would need to approve it. He fears the complaint will be ignored and that the car and credit card debts will remain his responsibility.

His depression and bipolar disorder have worsened, leading to a significant weight loss of 6 to 7 kilograms. "I'm at my wits' end. I can't find a way out," the student wrote.
