In search of quality applications for smartphones or computers, users often face an overwhelming number of options in large app stores. A new online platform aims to provide an alternative to the usual algorithms and download charts by allowing users to determine which programs rank at the top, regardless of the manufacturer. The platform's founder, Stephan Ehrmann, states that the goal is to make software visibility independent of large marketing budgets or raw download numbers.

Unlike the app stores of Apple, Google, or Microsoft, which are strictly separated from one another, the new bestseller list presents programs for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, Android, and Windows side by side. If a program is available for multiple systems, the votes from all versions are combined. Users can also filter the view by device type.

The ranking principle works as follows: after registration, users can give positive or negative ratings for individual apps. The placement is calculated directly from the positive votes minus the negative ones; there is no editorial influence on the order according to the operator. The bestseller list, rather than an app flood, starts with about 2,000 entries.

Additional applications can be added for free by users or developers. An app is automatically removed from the list if it loses interest from the community and no longer receives votes for an extended period. The community voting is supplemented by monthly awards for the most popular programs in individual categories, as well as recommendations from an independent expert jury.

The platform finances itself, according to its own statements, through sponsored entries, which are transparently marked and should not influence the ranking of the bestseller list.
