Mahama leaves for New York to attend 81st UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has embarked on a journey to New York, where he is set to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly. This year's assembly, themed "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All," presents Mahama with an opportunity to advocate for Ghana's key priorities, including global development, historical justice, and Africa's economic renewal.

On Monday, September 21, Mahama will host a high-level event titled "Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again." This gathering will convene global leaders to explore strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of global development systems. The following day, on Wednesday, September 23, Mahama will host a side event focusing on reparatory justice, specifically addressing international cooperation to facilitate the return and restitution of cultural properties and heritage.

On Thursday, September 24, Mahama will deliver Ghana's official statement during the UN General Assembly's main General Debate. During this event, Mahama is anticipated to engage with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General, and executives from multinational companies. His itinerary also includes ringing the NASDAQ Closing Bell, participating in a US–Ghana Presidential Roundtable organized by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce, addressing the Council on Foreign Relations, and attending the Ocean Panel Leaders' Meeting.

Mahama's New York engagements are scheduled to conclude on Friday, September 25, with a town hall meeting for the Ghanaian community. During this meeting, Mahama is expected to provide updates on his administration's national development agenda, accompanied by First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama, Foreign Affairs Minister, other Cabinet ministers, and senior officials from the Presidency and other government departments.
