Mahama exhibiting weak leadership, ‘pampering’ drug trade – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized President John Dramani Mahama for his weak leadership and failure to address recent drug trafficking cases involving Ghana. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 22, Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, stated that every individual in the chain of command bears responsibility for the country's poor performance.

He demanded that those accountable be removed from their positions. This statement came after a meeting between President Mahama and security and port-sector agencies on September 17 to review the cases. The President was informed that 10 individuals, including four Customs Division officers, were being held under investigation.

He subsequently ordered an inter-agency task force to enhance controls against narcotics trafficking. However, Nana B argued that the measures taken were insufficient, pointing out the embarrassment caused by the multiple illicit drug-related incidents in a short period. He emphasized that the security meeting was not a sufficient substitute for action and suggested that certain officials should have already lost their jobs.

Nana B accused Mahama of talking tough but not following through, stating that the President should have already sacked multiple officials who had allowed their duties to slip.
