Infantino’s letter a re-election ploy, says German FA chief

The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has sent a letter to all 211 member associations, proposing reforms within the world soccer governing body amid the ongoing crisis over his failed plan to sell a stake in the World Cup. This letter, seen by Reuters, is reportedly a strategy to secure his re-election in March. Infantino has suggested an independent review of FIFA's decision-making process to regain support following the withdrawal of his controversial private investment plan.

He also stated his intention to consult with confederations, member associations, and other stakeholders to strengthen FIFA's decision-making.

However, German Football Association President Bernd Neuendorf has dismissed Infantino's letter as a mere tactic to ensure his re-election. He believes that FIFA now acknowledges the need for changes but argues that Infantino is not the suitable leader for a reform process. Neuendorf, who is also a member of the FIFA Council, asserts that Infantino has lost all credibility and criticizes his handling of the issue. The Swiss is up for re-election in March, with opponents struggling to find a challenger.
