A tragic fire erupted at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad district of Telangana on Monday night around 11.50 p.m., resulting in the death of two infants. Fortunately, 28 other infants admitted to the ward were successfully rescued and evacuated before the blaze could cause further harm.

Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, deploying a fire tender to control the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the police have registered a case to probe the incident. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the two infants, mourning the tragic incident and reaching out condolences to their families.

The Chief Minister directed the state officials to ensure enhanced medical care for the remaining children receiving treatment at the hospital and to closely monitor their health. Reddy ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the fire and mandated the submission of a report detailing the reasons behind the disaster. Additionally, he instructed authorities to fortify fire safety protocols and other safety measures in hospitals throughout the state to avert similar incidents in the future.
