CJP Afridi briefs National Defence University delegation on justice reforms

Islamabad witnessed a briefing by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi on Monday, addressing a delegation of 123 participants from the National Defence University’s National Security and War Course 2027. Led by Major General Mohammad Shahzad Khan, the delegation consisted of faculty members and officers from Pakistan's Armed Forces and Civil Services, as well as 27 participants from friendly nations.

Upon their arrival at the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Afridi welcomed them and elucidated the principles of parliamentary democracy, constitutional governance, and justice sector reforms.

The Chief Justice elaborated on the constitutional framework of power separation among the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary, emphasizing their complementary roles in maintaining the rule of law. He provided a detailed overview of the judicial hierarchy, outlining the jurisdictions of various courts. Additionally, Chief Justice Afridi highlighted the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) as the apex judicial policy forum and informed the delegation about initiatives to enhance court infrastructure, public accessibility, and overall access to justice.

Furthermore, he discussed the Gender-Responsive Justice Initiative 2026–27, focusing on the establishment of Women Facilitation Centres, which aim to provide comprehensive facilitation and support services to women litigants in a single location.
