Human Rights Lawyer Jared Genser, Lanny J. Davis Join Team Representing Cambodian Businessman Yim Leak

Human rights attorney Jared Genser and former White House special counsel Lanny J. Davis have joined Yim Leak's legal team in Thailand, as they seek to challenge an asset freeze and disputed allegations against the businessman. Seiden Law LLP, which represents Yim, announced the appointments, stating the expanded team will analyze the actions of Thai authorities and address a campaign of false or misleading claims regarding their client.

The allegations against Thai authorities and media coverage are not independently verified by Seiden Law. Yim faces an asset freeze of over $600 million in relation to a $150,000 currency exchange transaction, which his lawyers claim is disproportionate to the transaction. Genser expressed concerns about the scale of the asset freeze and the process surrounding it, questioning the treatment of know-your-customer obligations and the inclusion of a child's savings account in the proceedings.

Davis will focus on public advocacy and reputational issues, while also investigating potential complicity or negligence on the part of Thai authorities. The team intends to pursue individuals they believe have improperly used media reports or government processes. The expanded team aims to examine the legitimacy of the enforcement measures and due-process protections in Yim's case, with the dispute potentially developing on two parallel tracks: legal proceedings and a broader international advocacy campaign.
