Ghana Women’s Movement announces protest over alleged intimidation of women

The Ghana Women’s Movement announced a protest in Accra on September 29th to advocate for women's rights, freedom of expression, and political participation. The demonstration, dubbed the "Women's Voices Matter Demonstration," will include women from various sectors and political parties. The movement expressed concern over the increasing intimidation, arrests, and imprisonments of women for exercising their right to free expression.

They emphasized their constitutional right to express opinions, participate in politics, criticize the government, and demand accountability without fear of intimidation or arrest. The group plans to present a petition to Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, highlighting their demands for dignity, equality, freedom of expression, women's empowerment, and equal treatment.

They also called for the full implementation of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024, particularly provisions aimed at increasing women's representation in decision-making. The movement demanded enhanced economic opportunities for Ghanaian women, including better access to capital, employment, and support for businesses.
