Ghana TVET Service warns against unauthorised fee collection

The Ghana TVET Service has expressed concern over reports suggesting some Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions are charging unauthorized fees from prospective students and parents during the admissions process. The Service maintains that students and parents are not obligated to pay any fees not explicitly authorized as part of the admission process.

It categorically stated that charges for admission processing or compulsory prospectus purchases are unlawful and contravene established directives. The Ghana TVET Service views these practices with grave concern, as they undermine the integrity of the Free TVET policy and risk misleading students into believing that technical education has become prohibitively expensive.

In response, the Service has initiated a nationwide monitoring and compliance initiative, deploying Academic Calendar Monitoring Teams to all TVET institutions to ensure adherence to approved guidelines. Any institution or staff member found collecting unauthorized fees will face immediate and severe disciplinary action. Parents and guardians are urged not to make any unapproved payments and to report such incidents to the Ghana TVET Service via the designated channels.

The Ghana TVET Service remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving the integrity of the Free TVET policy, ensuring access, fairness, and transparency within the TVET system. It will take all necessary steps to uphold the credibility of the government policy, preventing any Ghanaian child from being excluded from education due to financial constraints.
