Ghana TVET Service, UNESCO, KPMG, Microsoft to train 100,000 facilitators in AI, digital skills

The Ghana TVET Service has formed a partnership with UNESCO, KPMG, and Microsoft to train 100,000 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) facilitators in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills. This collaboration, under the AI EmpowerED initiative, began on September 1, 2026. The objective is to integrate AI and digital technologies into Ghana's TVET system by enhancing facilitators' capacity to utilize these technologies in teaching and learning, while promoting responsible AI usage in classrooms.

The initiative aims to support curriculum improvement, instructor training, and the deployment of digital tools in selected TVET institutions. Engr. Dr Eric Kofi Adzroe, the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, emphasized that technical and vocational education must adapt to the rapidly changing global economy. The partnership is seen as a shift towards a technology-driven, industry-aligned system focused on outcomes.

Abdul Fatah Maigah Mahama, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, highlighted that the program will also address risks associated with AI in education, ensuring integrity in its use by equipping facilitators with the skills to apply AI responsibly. The agreement sees the Ghana TVET Service leading the national implementation, UNESCO providing policy leadership and technical oversight, KPMG supporting program design and systems strengthening, and Microsoft contributing digital infrastructure and AI-powered solutions.

This collaboration aims to boost youth employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation by equipping TVET graduates with skills relevant to emerging technologies and evolving labor-market demands. The Ghana TVET Service plans to implement this initiative in collaboration with government agencies, industry partners, and development organizations to ensure sustainability and wide-ranging impact across the nation.
